Brooklyn Public Library – Info and Wayfinding Signage
We're a brilliant bunch of bibliophiles at SKAGGS -- the groaning shelves in our design library prove it. So we're proud to announce the launch of the new Brooklyn Public Library signage system! We were presented with the large and somewhat daunting task of updating the confusing system already in place, which wasn't accurate after many years of changes to the functional layout of the library. SKAGGS introduced an intuitive, consistent and modern wayfinding system — Dewey himself would be proud.
"Within 10 minutes of the signage going up people were definitely taking notice, many were commenting on what a great improvement the new signs were and I overheard one man telling his friend he'd just found the Cafeteria on the 3rd floor… a place he never knew existed. That was definitely satisfying." says Bradley Skaggs.
Our first task was to consolidate and unify the wayfinding information for all three floors. Next up, we refined the typography and set the information against a white background, improving legibility and reinforcing the library's brand identity. We established a color-code system, and posted maps on each floor. Now it's easier than ever to explore and enjoy the library.
