The identity was created with stability and structure in mind.
Advertising
As part of their ongoing brand development, Degenkolb Engineers wanted to highlight their commitment to innovation in structural engineering. SKAGGS was brought on board to concept, design and provide art direction on an advertising campaign that would run in magazines and publications targeting clients, collaborators and potential employees.
Our concept for the campaign spoke to Degenkolb Engineers’ commitment to innovative structural engineering. What do leaf cell walls have to do with building safety? Nature is the mother of invention.
The campaign, which ran for over two years in business publications nationwide, featured examples of naturally-occurring structures and drew parallels with Degenkolb Engineers’ expertise and experience.
Collateral
As Degenkolb Engineers’ agency of record, we created their stationery, corporate folder and annual holiday cards. In 2007 we hired a San Francisco-based illustrator to draw the individual caricatures of Degenkolb employees, which we used on the front side of the card. On the back was a construction detail drawing that could be used for the memory game (a matching detail had to be found in the deck).
In 2008 we created something that Degenkolb’s clients could use during the holiday season: coasters featuring recipes of six classic holiday beverages would be something their clients would hold onto and use at their office or even bring home. Each coaster featured a seasonal cocktail ingredient with recipe instructions. The graphics were inspired by construction drawings and sections.

The website itself is fit to burst with news, ideas and information, reflecting the energetic and familial working atmosphere.

For the revamped Degenkolb website produced a video demonstrating why Degenkolb is a leader in the field of engineering. And since it’s all about keeping it real, we weren’t about to settle for the usual Hollywood phoniness or corporate blather—instead, Senior Partner Chris D. Poland explains how Degenkolb is an employee-owned firm that stays ahead of the curve.
