Salon Luba
Logo + Identity, Videoshoot, Advertising, Website

They say that hair is the richest ornament of women…SKAGGS can most definitely identify with that!
Salon Luba approached us in the summer of 2008 to create their brand identity and subsequent marketing collateral. Located at the Riverside Mall, New Jersey, Salon Luba is the first hair and beauty establishment of its kind at the luxury brand-driven mall. Typically, New Jersey salons had reputations for being advocates of the phrase “big hair is better” — Salon Luba wanted to set themselves apart from the hairspray masses and make a visual impact that would complement their modern salon interior and honor their commitment to providing an unsurpassed salon experience.
The Logo
Named in part after the Salon principal Luda Karasik, the aim was to create a logo that radiated charm, sophistication and femininity. Through logo workings (seen above), we decided on a looping, swooping “L”. We felt that it captured the concept of the movement of hair, while simultaneously retaining the sophistication of the Salon Luba interior. When it came to color, we used an elegant yet contemporary silver grey with a pop of warm orange as a highlight color.
The Collateral
As is the case at most salons, menus are put through their paces — whether they’re taken home and pinned on a notice board or handed out in the salon, they need to be durable. In keeping with Salon Luba’s interior, we kept the menu design simple and the paper stock silky smooth (and waterproof). Not to be outdone by their luxury brand neighbors, Salon Luba requested carry-home bags that would also translate the luxury ethos behind the brand. The result? Simple white bags with the Salon Luba logo screen printed in grey with an accent pop of orange tissue paper.

The Website
www.salonluba.com
The Salon Luba website was designed with simplicity in mind. Keeping the interface minimal in color scheme and layout, our aim was to let Salon Luba’s work speak for itself.
Digital Media
Salon Luba recently styled the hair at the annual CCFA (Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America) event. SKAGGS collaborated with Brooke Altman to capture the backstage buzz at the Waldorf-Astoria with this fast-paced video and behind-the-scenes photoshoot.
