“Vampy Indulgent Glamour” — this was the key phrase that led the concept for Vanity Beauty Lounge (VBL), an upscale beauty parlor located in the Financial District of San Francisco. “After long, nonstop days in the office, there weren’t many places in the Financial District offering premium beauty services in luxurious surroundings. We really wanted to focus on luxury and glamour and allow the high-powered female executives to relax or similarly release their inner vamp,” says Jonina Skaggs, Art Director.
Located smack-bang in the heart of San Francisco’s Financial District, Vanity Beauty Lounge brings a little bit of sauce and a lot of sophistication to those who take more than just a casual interest in their appearance. With the “Three ‘S’s” in mind (Style, Sophistication and Seduction), SKAGGS created Vanity’s one-of-a-kind brand identity and attitude, and brought that certain va-va-voom to the subsequent collateral and retail interior.
The Logo
“For the logo, we started off by taking a serif typeface–Bodoni–and then we refined the letters to reflect the Vanity Beauty Lounge ethos. It’s all about sophistication, but we sexed it up a little. We used a capital letter ‘Y’ and dropped the fulcrum down to the base level of the text. The logo has a balanced, confident and considered look that seems natural and effortless.”

The Menus, Stationery and Business Cards
The VBL color palette incorporates a pewter-like smoky gray, classic black, smooth cream and just a dash of cranberry-red.

The Vanity Beauty Lounge Interior
SKAGGS worked with NYC-based interior design firm Jo Laurie Design on the Vanity Beauty Lounge interior. Beginning with a few stand-out pieces with that “WOW!” factor (sumptuous, velvety vintage wallpaper, deep red upholstery and even a chandelier!) we worked from there to develop the tone for the website and subsequent collateral.

The Vanity Beauty Lounge Website
A full-service site offering appointment bookings, seasonal specials and a reservations section for parties with that certain je ne sais quois that only Vanity Beauty Lounge can provide. Reflecting the sumptuous interior design of the store and the elegance of the brand identity, the site is cool, elegant and sexy.
