Aerobic Poodles: Remembering Director Nagi Noda
Posted by Elspeth on January 29, 2009 at 4:15pm
Over cupcakes and champagne yesterday evening, we were discussing some of history’s most successful and long-running television ads. Of course, Coca-Cola’s era-defining “Give the World a Coke” campaign came up. It reminded me of director Nagi Noda’s commercial for Coke that plays on the familiar concept of people coming together in “perfect harmony” accompanied by catchy music (in this case, an original ditty by Jack White).
A multi-talented and prolific artist who passed away this year aged just 35, Nagi Noda left behind a bizarre and beautiful body of work, including music videos featuring real-live dancing cats, and a surreal aerobics video “for being appraised as an ex-fat girl” starring poodles in leotards.
