About Us

Founder Jonina Skaggs had grown tired of the amount of "overpopulated,” "in-your-face" design work that she encountered almost everywhere in the early ’90s and wanted to bring back the concept of simplicity in design and advertising.

With a strong belief that bigger wasn't always better, Jonina partnered with Bradley Skaggs in 1998 to form SKAGGS. In 2000 they expanded and opened up the New York City office to focus more on the fashion and beauty industries, as well as be more centralized to their increasing number of international clients. SKAGGS' simplified approach to design and unique focus on the complete brand experience gave them their reputation as "a different kind of agency," attracting the attention of companies such as Microsoft, NASA, Estée Lauder, TOTO and other global companies and earning them numerous industry awards and accolades. Today, with a solid team of creative individuals and a focus on the future, that reputation still stands.

The Team

Nicole serves as “the goose” for SKAGGS and caterer for SKAGGS barbecues, providing golden eggs to children everywhere. Prior to joining SKAGGS, she worked as an AutoCAD monkey (note the animal theme here) for an architecture firm or two and as studio guru extraordinaire. Her work has appeared in parks, soccer fields, and ponds. She is the only goose in existence who can’t eat bread. She was named the goose by a close personal friend on a particularly boring night of hanging around in a basement. Nicole studied at Wentworth Institute of Technology in misery town (aka Boston). Outside of work Nicole enjoys cooking yummy treats, watching the Red Sox lose, the Giants winning, and living in the un-cool part of Brooklyn (it does exist).

The Team

Ingrid started out as the youngest design intern ever (almost) at SKAGGS but has now progressed to serve as deputy concierge, designer, chief butler, and sample collector. Whenever she shows up in the office she enjoys sharing random facts about Sweden and sometimes her colleagues pretend to listen.

Ingrid recently graduated with a degree in Graphic Design from Parsons (before they had elevators and the fancy lobby). During her time at Parsons she also gave birth to her lovely daughter Stella “The Energizer Bunny” Murphy. Before pursuing her degree in Graphic Design she worked in Public Relations, Marketing and Events Management at companies such as Fleishmann-Hillard, Luxury Marketing Group and SACC New York.  She moved to New York from Stockholm, Sweden in 2000 to study at Pace University where she received a Bachelors Degree in International Public Relations. Other stints in her previous lives have involved, airplanes, gambling, clowns, school kids and lipstick, although not simultanously or in that specific order.

Her work has appeared in U.K based “Mix Magazine,”  the book “Advertising Design and Typography” by Alex White, and “Parson’s Best Student Round-Up” book in 2007 and 2008 as well as a couple of trash cans. She has never had a nickname, or at least that is what she says…  Outside of work Ingrid enjoys riding her bike (yes, it is purple, but her daughter has to be the boss sometimes too, ok?),  shouting “get out of my kitchen!” to her husband while cooking Italian food, and pretending she is her own private sommelier on a semi-regular basis.

The Team

Daniel serves as the wingman, the wild card a designer for SKAGGS. He provides good looks to astonishing designs to the Walker/Church crew. Prior to joining SKAGGS, he designed for a branding and identity studio. His work has appeared in conventions in Hong Kong and Las Vegas, coffee shops, clothing stores, all over the interwebs, and will eventually appear in fancy design books.

Daniel studies graphic design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and studied previously at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Outside of work, Daniel enjoys kickin’ it, ping-pong and going to free concerts in the park.

The Team

Jonina Skaggs serves as the Art Director “Mama” for SKAGGS. She also provides her signature on all the checks to make sure that her staff can go partying at the hotspots in NYC and also pay off their student loans.

Prior to founding SKAGGS in 1998, she worked at a big-boots agency in San Francisco, where she fought her way through layers of old fart bureaucracy to produce outstandingly creative work. Tired of the big agency boardroom snore-fests and egos, she went to work for a smaller firm where she learned her honorable multitasking and client relations skills.

In her “former life,” Jonina worked at Hermann & Valentiny, an architecture firm in Luxembourg, where she served as a junior project manager/architect. Her work has appeared in Veggfódur (an Icelandic design publication), Print Magazine, Pastry Art and Design, Information Design and Dynamic Graphics by Rockport Publishers as well as Fortune Magazine.

She was named Skuli Postur by her brother and husband for her sometimes clumsy acts of grace: tripping over her laundry bag while carrying it to the laundromat, flying off her scooter, tripping over the cable car tracks in San Francisco in front of hundreds of tourists, and body-surfing down Canal Street during rush hour in New York, to name a few.

Jonina studied Interior Architecture at the Fachhoshule Trier in Germany and then received her MFA in Graphic Design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. She has taught classes in Marketing and Communications for the University of Iceland and Graphic Design at Myndlistaskolinn á Akureyrar (the Arts and Crafts College in Akureyri). Outside of work, Jonina enjoys swimming (especially when visiting Iceland), diving without sharks, Icelandic cuisine, reading and politics.

The Team

Elspeth Maxwell serves as bringer of joy, peace, happiness and extensive fine art knowledge for SKAGGS.

She provides sunshine, rainbows, sparkles and the occasional unicorn to everything she designs. Prior to joining SKAGGS, Elspeth led an amazing double life working as a busty barmaid in a cocktail bar by night and a professional geek for the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art by day. Her work has appeared on billboards, in galleries and on blogs in Edinburgh, Las Vegas, New York and Chicago, among other cities.

Elspeth studied Scribbles and Non-Toxic Crayons (Drawing and Painting) at the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland, where she was named First Class Bachelor of Arts on graduation. Outside of work, Elspeth enjoys a bohemian lifestyle in hipster-infested Brooklyn.

The Team

Bradley Skaggs serves as Chief Technorati, the Architect, “the Brain” and Creative Director at SKAGGS. You will find him with either a MacBook Pro, iPhone or glass of fine wine in his hands at any given moment.

Prior to joining SKAGGS, he worked as an architect for Daniel Solomon and then Studios Architecture as a project architect. Before that, he spent nearly four years traveling and working in Europe, visiting all the great works of modern architecture that eluded his “Flatlander” days in Kansas. His work has appeared in several architectural magazines, including Veggfódur (an Icelandic design publication), Print Magazine, Pastry Art and Design, Information Design and Dynamic Graphics by Rockport Publishers as well as Fortune Magazine.

He was named Bradley by his mother on January 24, 1967 and since then has been named several other things, some of which he’d rather not mention here. Bradley earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kansas State University. Outside of work, Bradley enjoys catching up on sleep, being a foodie, diving (when he can actually make it to a beach) and trying to stop climate change with his bare hands.
