Visionaire 53. SOUND

Sam | Design, Music, Art, Fashion & Beauty | Tuesday, January 15th, 2008 @ mid-morning

I came across Visionaire’s latest must have, a little late for Xmas but it’s a very cool gift for anybody that loves music. It’s basically a portable record player with over 100 minutes of sound on five 12” vinyl record picture discs and 2 CDs

Visionaire 53. SOUND will consist of five 12-inch vinyl records, imprinted with images (picture discs), containing approximately 100 minutes of sound content featuring audio experiments, unreleased songs, samples, and spoken word pieces. The 5 records are packaged inside a domed case that also houses a custom-made MINI Clubman “Vinyl Killer” Record Player: a battery-operated toy car containing speakers and a needle.

It’s also got a stellar contributers list made up of those in music, art and fashion: David Byrne, U2, Courtney Love, Cat Power, Yoko Ono, Helmut Lang, Christian Marclay, Doug Aitken, Carl Michael Von Hausswolff; Hiroshi Fujiwara; Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander McQueen, Stefano Pilati and many more.

Is It Any Wonder?

Bradley | Music, Experience | Tuesday, December 11th, 2007 @ around lunchtime

How could it not be when the man himself, Stevie Wonder, was in the house! I was fortunate to be able to attend Harper’s Bazaar’s 140 year birthday party last night and to my great surprise, the secret “guest performer” was none other than Stevie Wonder himself!

Stevie Wonder has been an artist that I’ve known of my entire life. I’ve never been a huge fan of his, but then again how can anyone not be a fan? He’s always been there and his music is full of love and happiness. To see him last night was just spectacular. Held at the Highline Ballroom in the Meat Packing District of NYC, the event was attended by at least 200 loyal fans of Harper’s. Doug E. Fresh backed up Mr. Wonder(ful) while notable faces in the crowd included Alan Cumming and, the man, Samuel L. Jackson.

Thanks Stevie! It was an amazing evening and a great show! Now if I could only get lucky and pop into a party where David Bowie is the special guest…

Volta

Jonina | Music | Tuesday, March 20th, 2007 @ in the wee hours

Bj??rk thought she could organize freedom and that it was very Scandinavian of her to do so. Now she is coming out with Volta, which I belive is her 11th studio album since her split with the Sugar Cubes. This time she will address her frustration and anger towards the world’s untamed greed and hypocrisy.

I’m anxious to hear the the lyrics and if this quote from a recent interview on MTV is any indication, I’m sure it will be another great album.

“I am, like many people, quite upset about how things are in the world now, and while I am a musician, I wanted to maybe be a spokesperson for the people in the street, who are pretty pissed off in general. I am just one of all these voices, and the fact that somebody like me has had enough shows you it is a pretty intense time we live in. Emotionally, I was just really, really hungry for something quite full-bloodied and visceral.”

I love this band, they’re incredible. I just bought their new album “All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone” and like always its just plain amazing. I’m seeing them next month for the second time; they blew my mind the first time, and I’m sure they won’t disappoint this time. They were on Late Night with Conan O’ Brian recently, check out the video:
