Maybe The Wolf’s Not So Bad?
Design, Branding | Thursday, December 20th, 2007 @ just before lunchtimeWolf Ollins have had their fair share of grief this year. From their much poo-pooed London Olympics 2012 logo and the Wacom “trumpet thing” to their part in the (I will say no more) NYC taxi redesign and NYC Visit logo. I’ll admit I was one of the many grief givers, however time has passed and I’m not gnashing and grinding my teeth as much. Today I found myself looking at the nycvisit.com site, thanks to the beautifully designed “This Is New York City” posters from I Love Dust and BBH NY.
Dare I say that I think the overall redesign of the site/identity and campaign are not.that.bad…They’re engaging and they’ve got color, vibrance and za-za-zuuu. The website is definitely more organized and interesting than the last boring site and I think the campaign as a whole is successful.I know some people may disagree but Armin over at Brand New discusses it all. While I still think the NYC logo when not seen in context does look clunky, the Wacom “trumpet thing” is not for me and I’m still having difficulty with the London 2012 ident…I really can’t help but agree with Brand New at Under Consideration on a few things in regards to the NYC Visit/Taxi saga…hmmm maybe the Big, Bad Wolf isn’t so bad after all?
