Milan Design Week 2007
Design, Architecture | Tuesday, May 15th, 2007 @ at around evening timeAhhh, finally Spring has sprung and it’s time again for NYC Design Week 2007 and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF). I’ve never been to Milan Design Week but next year, it is definitely on my the list. If the images and what I’ve read are any indication, then I think we’re in for a real treat this year at the ICFF (May 19-22, 2007).
There was some amazing work shown in Milan. My favorites include Ron Arad at Dolce & Gabbana
Antonio Citterio with Toan Nguyen for Flos
Jean Nouvel did an amazing installation for DuPont’s Corian‚Ñ¢ (Why doesn’t DuPont do something so cool with Corian here in the US? Corian is such a great product and it deservers more ‘respect’ than just being regulated to countertops). The backlit switches (the material is routed on the backside to change the density of the material) are simply beautiful and the slot-in shelves are totally sweet. Very cool.
And then there is the ever creative Marcel Wanders with his own line as well as a couple of pieces for Flos. Check out the macram?© chairs. You may know him from Moooi.
And finally, there is our good friend David Troubuen kicking it from way down under in New Zealand. David really has a fresh perspective and his lamps and woodwork are simply beautiful.
Of course there are many more, including Moooi (you have to love the horse lamp), Retired Weapons (their work reminds me of the Cish Cash video with Suxsie Sue) and, of course, the heavy weights - Cappellini, Cassina, Vitra., Poltrona Frau and BB Italia.
If Milan is any indication, then the ICFF should be a good one. Hope to see you out for the best week that NYC can offer!
